Is collagen just protein powder with a better name?
A 2023 meta-analysis of 26 randomized trials in 1,721 people found daily oral collagen peptides improved measured skin hydration and elasticity. A separate 12-week trial at 5 g a day supported knee comfort in active adults. This is that protein, unflavored, from 100% grass-fed and grass-finished cattle.
- Adults who want more daily protein without another flavored shake
- People whose diet is heavy on muscle meat and light on the connective-tissue cuts
- Practitioners who want a single-ingredient protein to add to an existing routine
- We recommend incorporating collagen into your daily routine in whichever way you enjoy most. Add it to beverages, shakes, or recipes as a simple way to increase protein intake.
- Collagen peptides are a versatile protein source that can be added to smoothies, broths, baked goods, soups, or other recipes. Many people choose collagen to support overall wellness as part of a balanced diet.
- Start with a small amount and work up. A large protein hit all at once is what causes discomfort.
- Trial doses run roughly 2.6-10 g a day, with skin trials as low as 0.6 g. The scoop size is on the label.
- Stay with it daily. The knee-comfort trial ran 12 weeks.
- Amino acids for protein synthesis. Collagen supplies the glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline pattern that muscle meat is short on.
- Skin hydration and elasticity. This is the outcome with real pooled human data. A 2023 meta-analysis of 26 randomized trials in 1,721 people found daily oral collagen supported measured skin hydration and elasticity.
- Joint comfort over the long haul. A 12-week trial in 180 physically active adults used 5 g a day and reported better activity-related knee comfort than placebo.
- Protein you will actually take. Completely unflavored, clean, and easy to mix into foods and beverages, so it goes into coffee, broth, or oatmeal without changing them. Protein you skip does not count.

Hydrolyzed grass-fed bovine collagen peptides (Type I & III)
Effects of Oral Collagen for Skin Anti-Aging: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Nutrients · 2023 · meta-analysis · n=26 randomized controlled trials, 1,721 participants
Pooling 26 randomized trials with 1,721 participants, oral hydrolyzed collagen improved measured skin hydration and skin elasticity versus placebo, with effect sizes varying by collagen source and length of supplementation.
Hydrolyzed grass-fed bovine collagen peptides (Type I)
Collagen peptides knee comfort trial, 2021
Nutrients · 2021 · RCT · n=180 completers (98 collagen, 82 placebo)
In a 12-week double-blind randomized trial in 180 physically active adults, 5 g/day of collagen peptides reduced activity-related knee discomfort more than placebo on a visual analogue scale (-21.9 mm vs -15.6 mm, p = 0.024).
Hydrolyzed bovine collagen peptides
Effects of Hydrolyzed Collagen as a Dietary Supplement on Fibroblast Activation: A Systematic Review
Nutrients · 2024 · systematic review · n=11 studies
Across 11 included studies, hydrolyzed collagen at 50-500 ug/mL stimulated fibroblast proliferation in human and animal tissue without toxicity, and lower-molecular-weight peptides showed better delivery to tissue.
Evidence note: Strong for skin hydration and elasticity and moderate for joint comfort: both outcomes rest on pooled randomized human trials, though the trials use branded peptide preparations rather than this specific powder.
FAQ
What does Type I and III mean?
Those are the fiber types the raw material is drawn from, the two most abundant in skin, bone, and connective tissue. The type describes the source rather than what your body rebuilds with it.
How much should I use?
Start low and build up gradually. The scoop size is on the label.
Will it change the taste of my coffee?
It is completely unflavored and clean, and easy to mix into foods and beverages. That is the whole reason people put it in coffee, broth, and oatmeal.
Is it a complete protein?
Collagen is low in tryptophan, so it works alongside meat, eggs, and fish rather than in place of them. Used that way it adds the glycine and proline those foods are shortest on.
What does it do for the gut?
Mechanism first: collagen supplies glycine and proline, amino acids the gut lining draws on to renew itself. That is why people eating a muscle-meat-heavy diet add it back. The pooled human trials in the research drop-down measure skin hydration, skin elasticity, and knee comfort; the gut lining case is the amino-acid supply argument.
What do people notice?
Customer feedback highlights support for gut function, skin, hair, nails, energy, strength, and overall vitality. Some users also report a sense of balance and well-being when incorporating collagen regularly as part of their nutritional routine. Individual results may vary.
Pairs well with
- 100% Grass-Fed Beef Liver — whole-food copper, which NIH lists among the cofactors for connective tissue enzymes
- Camu Camu Powder — whole-food vitamin C, a cofactor your body uses to build its own collagen
- FIQ Recuperate (Copper & Boron) — the copper side of the same connective-tissue story
Cautions
- We encourage responsible use. Too much protein at one time may cause digestive discomfort. Increase gradually rather than starting at a full scoop.
- Consult your healthcare professional before use if pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or managing a medical condition.
- Not intended for children without guidance from a qualified practitioner.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Best if used within 12 months of opening.
