What is this, and is it for me?
Camu camu is naturally about 15% vitamin C, one of the richest sources on earth. A 2017 Nutrients review lays out vitamin C's roles in immune cell function and skin barrier integrity. This is the whole fruit, dried at low heat.
- Adults who want vitamin C from fruit rather than from an isolated ascorbate
- Anyone mixing their own Adrenal Cocktail who needs the vitamin C component by the pound
- Practitioners who want a single-ingredient, organic vitamin C source
- Adults: up to 3 teaspoons (about 15 capsules) every 4 hours as needed. Each teaspoon provides approximately 519 mg of whole-food vitamin C.
- Children (ages 5 to 12): use 1/4 of the adult serving.
- Best used 1 to 3 times daily as part of the Adrenal Cocktail mixture.
- Start gradually and increase your serving over time if needed.
- Vitamin C from a fruit. One ingredient: organic, non-GMO camu camu, produced with a low-heat extraction process to preserve nutrient integrity. Unlike synthetic ascorbic acid, ascorbates, or yeast-based vitamin C, this is the full complex of vitamin C including its natural cofactors. Synthetic forms are isolated and incomplete, often requiring the body to supply the missing layers.
- One of the most concentrated food sources there is. The label puts camu camu at roughly 15% vitamin C content, one of the richest sources on earth. Published pulp analyses run 1.41 g per 100 g in cultivated fruit and 2.4 to 3.0 g per 100 g in Amazon-native fruit, before drying concentrates it.
- Supports normal immune function. A 2017 review in Nutrients describes vitamin C accumulating in immune cells and its documented roles in epithelial barrier function, neutrophil activity, and lymphocyte differentiation.
- Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and plays a critical role in adrenal health. About 95% of vitamin C in the body is stored in the adrenals, which explains the strong connection between vitamin C intake and adrenal resilience. That is why vitamin C sits at the center of the Adrenal Cocktail recipe.
- Naturally rich in copper cofactors and tyrosinase. Camu camu also carries these natural cofactors, which help activate melanin and support mitochondrial energy pathways.
- Required for collagen. Vitamin C is a necessary cofactor in collagen biosynthesis, which is why it sits behind normal skin and connective tissue.
- Supports absorption of nonheme iron. Vitamin C improves uptake of the iron in plant foods. Worth knowing either way; see the note on iron below.

Vitamin C
Nutrients · 2017 · mechanistic review
A mechanistic review describing vitamin C's accumulation in immune cells and its documented roles in epithelial barrier function, neutrophil chemotaxis and phagocytosis, and B- and T-cell differentiation, with 100–200 mg/day cited as adequate for normal immune support.
Camu camu (Myrciaria dubia) fruit
Nutritional composition and vitamin C stability in stored camu-camu (Myrciaria dubia) pulp
Archivos Latinoamericanos de Nutrición · 2000 · in vitro
A laboratory composition analysis of camu-camu pulp measured 1.41 g vitamin C per 100 g in cultivated fruit and 2.4–3.0 g per 100 g in Amazon-native fruit, with about a 26% loss over 335 days of frozen storage.
Camu camu (Myrciaria dubia) fruit powder
Nutrients · 2025 · animal · n=48 rats
In a controlled experiment in 48 Wistar rats, camu-camu powder (46.3 mg GAE/g phenolics; 6.5 mg/g ascorbic acid) combined with resistance exercise increased total antioxidant capacity and nitric oxide levels without cardiac tissue changes.
Evidence note: Strong for vitamin C, which is among the best-characterized nutrients there is, and camu camu's vitamin C density is well documented analytically. Human trials of camu camu itself are still to come, so the page rests on the nutrient and composition data.
A note on iron
Iron is essential, but stored and unbound iron is reactive; it feeds oxidative stress. The body moves iron using copper-dependent ceruloplasmin and vitamin A, which is why we focus on whole-food copper and retinol rather than pushing more iron. If you are considering iron, test your levels first and talk it through with your practitioner. Iron is not right for everyone.

FAQ
Why whole-food vitamin C instead of ascorbic acid?
You get the fruit with it. Unlike synthetic ascorbic acid, ascorbates, or yeast-based vitamin C, this carries the full complex including its natural cofactors. Synthetic forms are isolated and incomplete, often requiring the body to supply the missing layers.
How much is in a teaspoon?
Approximately 519 mg of whole-food vitamin C. About 5 capsules equals a teaspoon.
Why does the content vary between lots?
Because it's a fruit. Published analyses report 1.41 g per 100 g of pulp in one growing region and 2.4 to 3.0 g per 100 g in native Amazonian fruit, and ascorbic acid keeps degrading with heat, light, and time after harvest.
Powder or capsules?
About 5 capsules equals a teaspoon. Powder lets you adjust the amount; capsules are simpler to carry. Capsule shells are bovine gelatin.
Can kids take it?
Children ages 5 to 12 use 1/4 of the adult serving.
What do people notice?
Users report improvements in energy, immune resilience, skin health, and overall well-being. Whole-food vitamin C supports the body differently than synthetics by providing not only ascorbic acid but also the full complex of cofactors and enzymes.
Pairs well with
- Adrenal Cocktail — this powder already measured with sea salt and potassium bicarbonate
- Salt of Life — the sea salt half of that same recipe
- Grass-Fed Collagen Protein — collagen alongside the vitamin C its synthesis requires
Cautions
- Start gradually and increase your serving over time if needed. High doses may cause digestive upset in sensitive individuals.
- Capsule versions contain bovine gelatin.
- Store in a cool, dry cupboard. Refrigeration not required. Best used within 12 months of opening.
