Size 00 USP Grade Pork-Free Bovine Gelatin Capsule
Enzymes in the Dissolution Testing of Gelatin Capsules
AAPS PharmSciTech · 2014 · mechanistic review of pharmacopeial standards
This review explains that gelatin capsule shells cross-link when exposed to aldehydes or to high humidity and temperature, forming near-permanent covalent bonds between lysine side chains that slow release, and that the United States Pharmacopeia therefore adopted a two-tier dissolution test adding pepsin below pH 6.8 or pancreatin above it when a capsule fails on the first tier.
Evidence note: Not applicable in the usual sense - this product contains no active ingredient, so there is nothing to verify clinically. The one source here is a pharmacopeial review documenting the USP standard that 'USP Grade' refers to and the cross-linking mechanism that makes the cool, dry storage instruction on this page a real requirement rather than boilerplate.
FAQ
How much powder does a size 00 hold?
That depends entirely on your powder. Fine, dense powders pack heavier than light herb powders, sometimes by double. Fill and weigh a few before you plan a batch.
Can I put oil or liquid in them?
No. These are not suitable for liquids or oils. Dry powders, herbs, and blends only.
Why does storage matter?
Gelatin shells go brittle when they get too dry and tacky when they get humid. Store in a cool, dry place, sealed, at an even temperature. Best if used within 12 months of opening.
Is there anything in them?
No. These capsules are intended for supplement preparation. They contain no active ingredients.
What counts can I buy?
100, 500, or 1,000 capsules, all size 00.
