What is this, and is it for me?
✦ New Formula
- People who want the magnesium lotion in a richer, more emollient form
- Anyone whose skin goes dry through winter and wants the balm rather than the lotion
- Adults building an evening wind-down around a massage instead of another capsule
- Tallow lotions should be used topically all over and specifically where you need it most.
- We recommend using it around your chest for the aromatic side or on the bottom of your feet for maximum absorption throughout the entire body.
- Most absorptive areas of the body: bottom of the feet hits the entire body for men and women. Thighs are the second most absorptive spot for women. Forearms are the second most absorptive spot for men. Use these if you need to use more lotion and the feet or other areas are already covered.
- Magnesium chloride can leave a slightly tacky or salty film as it dries. Wash your hands after applying.
- Avoid broken or freshly shaved skin. Salt-based lotions sting there.
- All of our Magnesium/MSM Lotions are safe for any adult to use. They should also be safe for just about any 5-12 year old. For our children under 2 years old, we normally only use the Zanex or Sleep Zzz in very small amounts. Zanex and Sleep Zzz are the only lotions we recommend for pregnancy, but all the lotions are safe for breastfeeding.
- These lotions last a long time, but since I use absolutely no fillers, it's best to warm the lotion back up and mix it back together from time to time if you aren't using all the lotion before it separates. Set the jar in a bowl with hot water for 20 minutes at a time until it melts down, then mix it with a milk frother. Sometimes you'll have to warm it up more than once to get it soft enough to mix. Keep it stored in a cool, dry place. For potency, use this lotion within 12 months of opening it.
- The richest jar in the line. Mag-Glow is our same great Magnesium Lotion, but we add about 1/3 of our 100% Grass Fed Bovine Tallow to enhance the Copper and Retinol Vitamin A benefits. It sits heavier and stays put longer than the others. Use this lotion to support all the things we talked about with Magnesium benefits while also having a huge support to our skin, energy, and immune system.
- Genuine Zechstein Magnesium Chloride. Our entire lineup of Magnesium and MSM Lotions has a base of mostly Shea Butter, Hemp Seed Oil, Zechstein Magnesium, and MSM, so you can use any of them topically to support pain, discomfort, tight muscles, joint issues, low magnesium, cramps, energy, and so much more. There is about 280 mg of magnesium in each teaspoon of lotion.
- MSM for skin comfort. Methylsulfonylmethane, an organosulfur compound. It is in the base of every lotion we make, and it is here for the same reason.
- Shea and hemp seed oil underneath. Organic shea butter and lab-tested hemp seed oil, which runs 50 to 70 percent linoleic acid. Between them, an emollient base that supports the skin's moisture barrier.
- No synthetic emulsifiers. A short label, so it separates. Warm the jar, re-mix it with a frother, carry on. Instructions below.
- Everything from the Magnesium lotion still applies while gaining all the benefits you see from our 100% Grass Fed Tallow Restore Lotion. Magnesium relaxes tissues, so applying this lotion to any areas with pain, discomfort, tension, etc., should support them. Magnesium is responsible for 3,751 proteins/enzymes, and therefore we can expect using this lotion will support those. It's also used to make every unit of our energy, so using it topically skips the digestive tract and deposits the Magnesium directly into our blood. This is extremely helpful for those who can't handle much magnesium orally.
- What clients tell us. Many clients report feedback about the support it gives to their skin, energy, gut, anxiety, irritability, and overall mood, amongst other things.

Sourcing & making
The shared base across our lotion line: organic shea butter, lab-tested hemp seed oil, genuine Zechstein magnesium chloride, my deuterium depleted distilled water, MSM, and beeswax, with a different essential oil blend in each jar. The only difference between the lotions is the essential oils included in each blend specifically; I source high-grade oils and blend specific oils to help with certain ailments. This one adds about 1/3 of our 100% grass-fed whipped bovine tallow, which is what makes it the Mag-Glow. No fillers and no synthetic emulsifiers, which is exactly why it separates. Store it cool and dry, out of the bathroom, and use within 12 months of opening.

Effect of transdermal magnesium cream on serum and urinary magnesium levels in humans: A pilot study
PLOS ONE · 2017 · RCT · n=25 randomised, 24 completed
In a single-blind randomised pilot study, 25 adults applying a cream delivering 56 mg/day of magnesium for two weeks showed an 8.5% rise in serum magnesium and a 9.1% rise in urinary magnesium versus placebo, reaching statistical significance only in the non-athlete subgroup.

Myth or Reality—Transdermal Magnesium?
Nutrients · 2017 · mechanistic review
Reviewing the available skin-penetration and supplementation data, the authors report that the published human work is small and heterogeneous, and call for larger and better-controlled trials before transdermal magnesium can be recommended as a route to raising magnesium status.
MSM (methylsulfonylmethane)
MSM applications and safety review, 2017
Nutrients · 2017 · mechanistic review
This review reports that MSM reduced exercise-induced muscle soreness and markers of oxidative stress in human trials, that most joint studies relied on subjective pain scales, and that MSM is well tolerated at oral doses up to about 4 g daily.
Evidence note: Emerging: a randomized pilot trial (n=25) measured an 8.5% rise in serum magnesium from a magnesium cream over two weeks, and a review of the same field published the same year called for larger and better-controlled studies before transdermal magnesium can be recommended as a way to raise magnesium status. The MSM evidence comes from oral trials. Capsules remain the reliable number; this is what the topical literature has measured so far.
FAQ
How much magnesium gets through skin?
A randomized trial found an 8.5% rise in serum magnesium over two weeks of daily application. It's in the research drop-down. People use it for how it feels on tired muscles and skin.
What makes Mag-Glow different from the other lotions?
We add about 1/3 of our 100% grass-fed bovine tallow to the shared base, to enhance the copper and retinol vitamin A benefits. It is richer, heavier, and it lasts longer on skin. Everything from the magnesium lotion still applies while you gain the benefits of our 100% Grass Fed Tallow Restore Lotion.
Why does my jar separate?
Because there are no emulsifiers or fillers holding it together, and it separates faster in a warm bathroom where the temperature swings. Sit the closed jar in hot water for about 20 minutes, then mix it with a milk frother. Repeat if it is still firm.
Can kids use it? What about pregnancy?
All of our Magnesium/MSM Lotions are safe for any adult to use.
Pairs well with
- Magnesium Malate — your reliable magnesium number, in a capsule
- Whipped Tallow Lotion — the same tallow balm, without the magnesium chloride
- Bomb Bath Salts — the soak version of the same mineral
