What is this, and is it for me?
✦ New Formula
- Dry, rough, weather-beaten skin that wants a richer layer than a pump lotion provides
- People who want a short ingredient list they could read out loud
- Anyone already using the copper serum who wants the emollient version of the same step
- Tallow lotions should be applied topically all over and specifically where you need them most.
- Warm a small amount between your fingers first. A little goes a long way.
- We recommend using them around your chest for the aromatic side or on the bottom of your feet for maximum absorption throughout the entire body.
- Most absorptive areas of the body: bottom of the feet hits the entire body for men and women. Thighs are the second most absorptive spot for women. Forearms are the second most absorptive spot for men. Use these if you need to use more lotion and the feet or other areas are already covered.
- Over a serum, not under one. Water-based products go on first; a balm is the layer that seals.
- I can see no issues with using it. A little goes a long way with young ones, and the same goes for adults.
- Store this in a cool, dark place like a cupboard. I recommend using this product within 6 months of purchasing it.
- Tallow behaves like skin's own fat. The composition study we looked at puts beef tallow at roughly 45% oleic, 30% palmitic, and 12% stearic acid. That is why it melts on contact and then stays where you put it.
- Grass-fed tallow carries retinol. Vitamin A is fat-soluble, and it rides in the fat the animal stored. Cattle finished on grass rather than grain build a richer fat-soluble vitamin profile, which is the whole reason we specify 100% grass-fed for the base and never render anything else.
- Whipped, so a little goes far. Straight tallow is a brick. Whipped with shea, the infused oils and a tiny bit of arrowroot powder for texture and absorption, a little goes a long way.
- Calendula infused, not extracted. The calendula goes into the organic olive and jojoba oils rather than in as a separate extract. Jojoba is a wax ester rather than a triglyceride, which is part of why this sits differently than a plain oil.
- Copper serum blended into the base. The same FIQ copper serum we sell on its own, folded through the whip. GHK-Cu supports collagen, elastin, and glycosaminoglycan synthesis in skin models.
- A balm, not a lotion. Richer, slower, and it stays. It goes on after a shower or over a water-based serum, and it is the layer that seals rather than the one that evaporates.
- Why I made it. This is a lotion I developed to support the many requests for a clean product that would support energy, fat absorption issues, and, most of all, our skin. Many times when people are dealing with skin issues, they are dealing with the ability to absorb nutrients through the gut and get them to the skin where they are needed. My wife noticed a huge difference in the eczema in her hand when using this product, so I kept improving it.

Now including FIQ Copper IQ Serum, Neroli and Copaiba Essential Oils in the blend to maximize the benefits of your skin.
Neroli is the single best essential oil for our skin and copaiba is incredible for it.

Here it is carried in whipped 100% grass-fed tallow with calendula-infused organic olive and jojoba oils, a small amount of organic shea butter, and a tiny bit of arrowroot powder for texture and absorption.
For dry, rough, weather-beaten skin, and for anyone who wants a label they could read out loud. 3 oz jar; 1, 2, or 3 packs.

What's in the jar
Here is what each ingredient is doing.
| Ingredient | Why it's in the jar |
|---|---|
| 100% grass-fed whipped bovine tallow | The base. Roughly 45% oleic, 30% palmitic, and 12% stearic acid, which is what makes it melt at body heat and then sit as an emollient layer. Grass-fed fat also carries the fat-soluble vitamins the animal stored, retinol among them. |
| Calendula-infused organic olive and jojoba oils | The infusion carrier and part of the spread. Jojoba is a wax ester rather than a triglyceride and is used as a cosmetic emollient; the calendula is infused into the oils. |
| Organic white shea butter | A skin conditioning butter. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review reports 37-62% oleic and 26-50% stearic acid, plus a 2-12% unsaponifiable fraction of triterpene alcohols and phytosterols. |
| Arrowroot powder | A tiny bit, for texture and absorption. |
| FIQ Copper IQ Serum | Brings the GHK-Cu copper peptide into the balm. |
| Neroli and Copaiba essential oils | Now in the blend to maximize the benefits of your skin. Neroli is the single best essential oil for our skin and copaiba is incredible for it. |
| Proprietary blend of essential oils for skin | The aroma. My wife's favorite blend of oils for skin. |
This is a cosmetic balm. Fatty acid figures from a 2021 beef tallow composition study and the Cosmetic Ingredient Review shea assessment; the peptide role from the CIR peptide safety assessment.

The research behind the ingredients
Published research on the ingredients in this product, for education. These studies were not conducted on this product.
Calendula-infused organic olive and jojoba oils, organic white shea butter
Topical plant oils barrier review, 2018
International Journal of Molecular Sciences · 2018 · mechanistic review · n=19 plant oils reviewed
This review of 19 plant oils reports that jojoba's wax esters support barrier repair and that shea butter's triterpenes speed tissue repair, while noting that topical olive oil increased transepidermal water loss in the studies reviewed rather than improving the barrier.
Organic white shea butter (Butyrospermum parkii)
Safety Assessment of Butyrospermum parkii (Shea)-Derived Ingredients as Used in Cosmetics
International Journal of Toxicology · 2024 · mechanistic review · n=13 shea-derived ingredients
The Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel assessed 13 shea-derived ingredients, reported that they function as skin- and hair-conditioning agents with no irritation or sensitisation at tested concentrations and no genotoxicity or carcinogenicity signal, and concluded they are safe in cosmetics when formulated to be non-sensitising.
Copper Peptide (GHK-Cu)
Regenerative and Protective Actions of the GHK-Cu Peptide in the Light of the New Gene Data
International Journal of Molecular Sciences · 2018 · mechanistic review
This review reports that GHK-Cu increases collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycan synthesis in skin models and alters expression of a large share of human genes, and cites 12-week facial cream trials in which GHK-Cu improved collagen production in 70% of treated women and reduced measured wrinkle volume compared with control creams.
Evidence note: The evidence here is at the ingredient level: a review of 19 topical plant oils covering jojoba's wax esters and shea's triterpenes, an expert-panel safety assessment of 13 shea-derived ingredients, and the GHK-Cu review behind the copper serum folded into the base. Rendered beef tallow is characterised by fatty-acid composition analysis - roughly 45% oleic, 30% palmitic, 12% stearic - which is what a topical emollient is judged on. A trial of this balm itself remains to be run.
FAQ
What does the tallow actually do for skin?
It behaves like the fat your skin already makes. Roughly 45% oleic, 30% palmitic, and 12% stearic acid, so it melts at body heat, spreads, and then sits as an emollient layer that slows water loss. Grass-fed fat also carries the fat-soluble vitamins the animal stored, retinol among them, which is why we specify grass-fed rather than rendering whatever is cheapest.
Why copper and retinol on the label?
The copper is the FIQ copper serum blended into the base. The retinol is what rides in the grass-fed tallow: vitamin A is fat-soluble and stores in animal fat, and grass finishing builds a richer fat-soluble profile than grain does.
Will it feel greasy?
It is a whipped fat, so it is richer than a water-based lotion. Warm a small amount between your fingers and use less than you would from a pump. The shea and tallow spread further than they look like they will, and it settles in after a minute.
Can I use it on my face?
Many people do, over a serum. Patch test first, then use it as the last layer at night.
What do people notice?
Most clients say it's their favorite lotion and really helps to support the condition of their skin, the beauty of their skin, and even increased energy in their body. Please let us know what it does for you!
