What is this, and is it for me?
Modern Roots Life Lab-Tested USP Grade Potassium Bicarbonate: a pure, single-ingredient source of potassium in bicarbonate form. Commonly used in Adrenal Cocktail blends and mineral support routines.
- Practitioners building Adrenal Cocktail or custom mineral protocols who want to set the dose themselves
- People already mixing their own mineral drinks who want the single ingredient rather than a blend
- Anyone who wants the alkaline potassium salt rather than potassium chloride in a compounded routine
- Suggested use, for general mineral support or in an Adrenal Cocktail: 1/4 teaspoon potassium bicarbonate, 1/4 teaspoon high-mineral sea salt, 1 teaspoon camu camu vitamin C powder.
- Mix with orange juice, low-glycemic juice, or another preferred liquid.
- Measure your serving. This one is not a guess-and-scoop product.
- Use as directed by your healthcare provider or wellness professional. Do not exceed the recommended serving.
- Store tightly sealed in a cool, dry place away from moisture and heat.
- One ingredient, nothing decided for you. Pure USP grade potassium bicarbonate in loose powder, so your practitioner sets the amount rather than a capsule press.
- A clean, simple way to help maintain electrolyte balance and overall mineral harmony. That is what this powder is for, and it is why it turns up in Adrenal Cocktail blends and mineral support routines.
- Supports normal fluid balance. Potassium maintains intracellular fluid volume and the electrochemical gradients across cell membranes. That is the mineral's job description.
- Bicarbonate is the alkaline salt. A 1994 controlled metabolic balance trial in postmenopausal women used potassium bicarbonate to neutralize endogenous acid and improve calcium and phosphorus balance. It is also the form the traditional Adrenal Cocktail recipe calls for.
- USP grade, batch tested. USP Grade verified, then batch-specific lab tested for purity and potency, and packaged in BPA/BPS-free materials.

The research behind the ingredients
Published research on the ingredients in this product, for education. These studies were not conducted on this product.
Potassium bicarbonate
The New England Journal of Medicine · 1994 · controlled metabolic balance trial · n=18
In a controlled metabolic balance study of 18 postmenopausal women, 60–120 mmol/day of potassium bicarbonate for 18 days neutralized endogenous acid and improved calcium and phosphorus balance, with markers indicating less bone resorption and more bone formation.
Potassium
Potassium supplementation meta-analysis, 2017
PLOS ONE · 2017 · meta-analysis · n=23 trials, 1213 participants
A meta-analysis of 23 randomized placebo-controlled trials in 1,213 participants found that oral potassium supplementation lowered systolic blood pressure by 4.25 mmHg and diastolic by 2.53 mmHg, with larger reductions at higher doses.
Potassium
Applied Sciences · 2024 · narrative review
A narrative review reporting that potassium is among the electrolytes lost and re-regulated during exercise in the heat, and that replacing sweat electrolytes supports hydration status and performance.
Evidence note: Strong for potassium as a nutrient: a metabolic balance trial on acid-base and mineral balance plus a 23-trial meta-analysis on blood pressure already within the normal range. The adrenal-cocktail recipe itself is a traditional preparation rather than a studied formula.
FAQ
What is the Adrenal Cocktail recipe?
1/4 teaspoon potassium bicarbonate, 1/4 teaspoon high-mineral sea salt, and 1 teaspoon camu camu vitamin C powder, mixed into orange juice, a low-glycemic juice, or another preferred liquid. That is the suggested use on the label.
Why bicarbonate instead of potassium chloride?
Bicarbonate is the alkaline salt, the form discussed in the context of acid-base balance. It is also what the traditional Adrenal Cocktail recipe calls for, which is why most people land on this page.
What does USP grade actually mean?
That the raw material meets United States Pharmacopeia specifications for identity and purity, and we add batch-specific lab testing for purity and potency on top of it. You know exactly what is in the jar.
Is this the same potassium as in the electrolyte powder?
Same salt, very different amount. The electrolyte powder carries potassium as one minor component of a blend. This is the pure material.
Pairs well with
- Salt of Life — the sea salt the Adrenal Cocktail recipe calls for
- Camu Camu Powder — the whole-food vitamin C in the same recipe
- Adrenal Cocktail — the same three components, already blended, if you'd rather not measure
Cautions
- Do not exceed the recommended serving. Excessive potassium intake may cause digestive discomfort or mineral imbalance.
- Consult your healthcare professional before use if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or have a medical condition.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Store tightly sealed in a cool, dry place away from moisture and heat. Best if used within 12 months of opening.
