Isn't salt just salt?
Sadly, your favorite “Hydration” product is probably working against you.
“Full-spectrum” and “high-electrolyte” are not the same thing. Full-spectrum means trace minerals show up on the test. High-electrolyte means the salt carries a meaningful amount of the electrolyte minerals the body runs on, not just traces. That profile is why we chose this salt.
Trace minerals are a bonus. The electrolyte profile is the point. Salt of Life is both: 0.705%–1.44% magnesium by weight, lab to lab, and about 85% sodium chloride where table salt is nearly all of it. We know of one other salt in the world with this profile. The two biggest brands don’t have it.
- Those looking for a magnesium- and potassium-rich electrolyte salt.
- Practitioners and clients building an adrenal cocktail or homemade electrolyte drink on a real high-mineral sea salt
- Home cooks, the barn, and wholesale shelves (50-unit cases in 4 oz, 8 oz, and 1 lb)
- Those looking for something that will actually help with their hydration. Tired of drinking so much water? Add the right salt to it.
- Use it anywhere you would use salt: cooking, seasoning, finishing, baking.
- Mix into water for hydration support, or place a pinch on your tongue, let it dissolve, and drink a glass of water behind it.
- In baths or self-care routines. Added to animal feed or water, the same way you'd use it yourself.
- Now in FINE and COARSE grain. Make sure to choose accordingly at checkout.
- Skip the shaker and the grinder. Natural moisture and crystal size keep true sea salt from flowing well. Use it as a chef's salt, with your fingers or a small serving spoon.
- Store in a glass Mason jar and let it dry naturally. Leave the lid off a while, or spread it on a glass baking pan overnight and stir a few times before jarring it.
- Mineral-rich by nature. Most salt today is stripped, bleached, and processed for volume: scraped by machine, dosed with anti-caking agents, refined until little of the original remains. Salt of Life is none of that. Its robust mineral profile is naturally occurring.
- A real source of magnesium. By weight, this salt tests between 0.705% and 1.44% magnesium across our lab results, significantly higher than many common culinary salts. Potassium and calcium come along with it. The lab tests are right here in the product images for transparency and comparison.
- About 85% sodium chloride. Nearly 15%+ less than many standard salts, which is why you can use it more liberally in food before it tastes overly salty.
- What customers report. Customer feedback highlights support for balanced electrolytes and trace mineral intake, and a cleaner, fresher taste in food. Some also describe feeling more hydrated and refreshed with it in their daily routine.
- One ingredient. Lab-tested, organic-qualified high mineral sea salt. If it clumps, that's the moisture it was harvested with.

Sourcing & making
Harvested in the Southwest region of Mexico, just south of Puerto Vallarta, in the coastal flats of Colima. Geothermal pressure draws the brine up from deep within the earth, through ancient volcanic strata, before it ever meets the sun. Then it is hand-harvested, crystal by crystal. Nothing added, nothing removed. Our lab tests are included in the product images for transparency and comparison.

The research behind the ingredients
Published research on the ingredients in this product, for education. These studies were not conducted on this product.
Sodium (as sodium chloride)
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition · 2016 · RCT · n=72
In a randomized trial in 72 healthy men, beverages containing sodium and other electrolytes (oral rehydration solution and milk) produced smaller urine output and greater fluid retention over 4 hours than plain water.
Sodium and chloride
Sports Medicine · 2017 · narrative review
A methodological review reporting that sweat is a saline fluid with sodium concentrations that rise with sweating rate, and that sweat sodium losses vary widely between individuals and within the same individual.
Sodium, potassium and chloride
Applied Sciences · 2024 · narrative review
A narrative review concluding that electrolyte losses during exercise in the heat can impair hydration status and plasma volume, and that measuring and replacing sweat electrolytes supports performance and safety.
Evidence note: Strong for sodium and chloride as electrolytes in hydration, with a good human trial and two reviews. Comparisons between unrefined high-mineral sea salt and refined salt are still to be run; what we can state is the mineral content and what those minerals do.
FAQ
How much magnesium am I getting?
About 10.6 to 21.6 mg per quarter teaspoon, depending on the lab. By weight, this salt tests between 0.705% and 1.44% magnesium, lab to lab. It's a meaningful daily contribution from something you already use at every meal; pair it with Magnesium Malate or Bis-Glycinate if you want more.
Fine or coarse?
Now in FINE and COARSE grain. Make sure to choose accordingly at checkout.
Why does it clump?
No anti-caking agent. Residual harvest moisture keeps the crystals sticking. Move it to a glass jar and let it air-dry, or spread it on a pan overnight and stir a few times.
Can I buy wholesale or resell it?
Wholesale 50-unit cases at 4 oz, 8 oz, and 1 lb are available at 20% off. Resale requires an agreement with Modern Roots Life LLC; email us and we'll set it up.
Pairs well with
- Adrenal Cocktail — the potassium and vitamin C half of the mineral drink
- Electrolyte Powder — when you want the whole blend already mixed
- Magnesium Malate — when you want a concentrated magnesium dose on top of what the salt gives you
Cautions
- Salt tolerance varies. Monitor your intake and stay properly hydrated. If you have medical concerns about sodium intake, consult a healthcare professional before use.
